Review: Shine by Lauren Myracle (ARC)

Rating: 4 out of 5
Summary: Cat lives in Black Creek, a small town where people farm, go to church on Sunday's and really don't care much for alternative lifestyles. So when Patrick, a gay teen is attacked outside of his work in a gruesome crime, that everyone refers to as a hate crime, his friend Cat just can't let it go. She  begins to question Patrick's friends, and the people that she thought she knew everything about surprise her. She finds out about drugs, cheating, and that some of them are hiding more secrets than she thought.

My Thoughts: This was a quick, good read. I think it really goes to show you that, even if you've known someone all you're life, you probably don't know everything about them. Everyone has secrets, and sometimes people will go to far to protect them if they're pushed hard enough.  I really wanted to hear more indepth stories on the characters. I mean, we know who is who, and what they do. We also find out a lot about some guys, but the others are just kind of there, with blurbs which makes me wonder why they are there. However, this is a good story. It angers me to a point because I know that there are places out there that really do treat people the way the people in this town did, and that they really do easily toss around insults. Also the ending was sort of fairy tale but I feel like it was extremely rushed. We hit a big conclusion and then wham! The end. However, this is still a good read.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC copy.
